This ancient town has conserved its tradition within a more pure atmosphere. The ceremony begins with the placement of large arches, one for each neighborhood, which are placed in the atrium of the church. These arches are then decorated with flowers, pine needles, and other plants as well as other common objects. Then groups of dancers perform in the plaza demonstrating their virtuosity as they execute beautiful pieces. Jarácuaro is famous for its musicians and dancers. Meanwhile at home families prepare the offerings that the women will take to the cemetery at dawn. These offerings are removed when the sun becomes high in the sky and taken to the church where they will chant praises. On the afternoon of the 2nd the offerings are divided among the faithful who set out for the cemetery for the ceremony of the blessing of the dead.
